Do You Need A Proofreader?

Do you need a proofreader?

Oh, hell yes!

Let me tell you, before I ran this through AI, and then got my husband to check it, this had at least 5 mistakes.

Now, before you start clutching your pearls and gasping… “But you’re a proofreader!” 

Let me explain.

You see. No matter who you are, you can’t spot all your own mistakes.

Yes, there are things you can do to help you spot them, but in the long run, odds are some will always slip through.

Why?

Because you know what the text is supposed to say!

You wrote it, so as you read it, it’s all too easy to read what is supposed to be there and not what actually is there.

Now, as I said, there are things you can do to help you spot your mistakes.

You can make the text bigger or read it out loud and yes, there is always artificial intelligence. But AI won’t tell you if you accidentally used adverse instead of averse or accept instead of except and if your font changed or your quotation marks switched from curved to straight.

While AI is a wonderful tool, it will never be as good as the human eye!

And a stranger’s eye is always more accurate than your own.

So, next time you look at your work and think, “Does it really need proofreading?” you need to ask yourself…

Do best-selling books get proofread?

I can tell you now, the answer is yes, and if they need proofreading, I can guarantee you do too!
